I'm not afraid of VAGINAS + Features

Throughout my time here on DA I have noticed an interesting trend. A lot of people avoid drawing vaginas on their nude female artworks. I'm not sure why this is, other than they're uncomfortable drawing such a thing. I mean... if there are boobs then the picture has to be marked "mature" anyways, so why not go the whole way? They always leave the area blank, like you would see in a barbie. I have seen this phenomenon is some really amazing anime and realistic artworks. I've even asked some artists why they made such an amazingly realistic picture, only to leave out that essential part, with no real answer. Honestly it pisses me off. SO many people are scared of drawing vaginas. I hate how so many people in our society are offended by, or afraid of the human body. Has anyone else noticed the invisible vagina trend? Does it annoy you?
Anyway, this leads me to my next topic. It would appear that nobody liked my pic I got the fewest number of favs or comments ever (just one). I think maybe it's because a lot of my watchers aren't 18 yet, and can't even see the pic. I'm wondering if, out of those that can see it, they just don't like seeing vaginas. (I know it's a really weird picture, but gosh, I have other weird pictures that people commented on at least).

i didn't pay that much attention to that. But i don't know, seem more of an "oubli" or maybe lazyness ?? After all, it depends wich look the user want to give to their drawing but ... Maybe they feel like not detail-ing the vagina would give a fresher and "purity" look ??? beuh ... dunno, really ^^'

Well hun, the vagina isn't always the most aesthetically pleasing thing to look at XD and maybe some folks don't want to risk getting their picture removed, or maybe they've never seen a vagina before hell who knows, maybe they are sexually repressed. ;p But I wouldn't take it personally some people just don't wanna draw it in detail just like I'm sure some people don't want to draw a penis in full detail.

I kinda have a hard time referring to the view of the female genitalia you posted up as "the vagina" itself. It's just a little cameltoe, you know? Before I saw the pictures, I thought you were talking about a full fledged detailed picture of one, with folds and everything. That probably wouldn't fly on dA though...which could spark a whole new discussion about DD subject matter and mod hypocrisy, etc..

But I can see where your annoyance comes from...They appear to spend so much time drawing an amazing figure, boobs and all: no problem. Suddenly at the last moment, they decide not to take just a little more time to indicate that their subject is quite a bit more defined than a barbie. I don't get it either and the notion that it somehow symbolizes "purity" (thus implying the vagina was "impure" to begin with) disgusts me.

I think it's kinda funny that vagina or not, in those examples the ladies are all completely clean shaven. If you want to talk more realistic......haha give me a break. I don't think anyone can convince me of the appeal of grown women making their crotches look the same as those of prepubescent girls. I know it's sorta sick putting it that way, but I can't think of one redeeming quality that mandates you have to rid yourself of ALL pubic hair (i.e. cleanliness, texture).

Finally, about your drawing: I'm of legal age, I can see it. I don't mind seeing vaginas. The nudity doesn't bother me, I thought it was tastefully done and complemented the interesting background info in the description. But to be frank, I don't like the picture itself. She could be covered up, wouldn't matter. Maybe it's the aesthetics, I don't know. I do feel, though, that it may be a bit presumptuous to assume your watchers dislike seeing, or aren't able to see, vaginas just because you didn't get much feedback on that particular piece.

I personally just think they're ugly so I don't like drawing them haha. I mean I do draw them when I'm working on comics for slipshine but I really don't like to. Tho there are some artists I've seen that can draw a really nice looking one :0 but I'm just too picky about it. I'm not gunna like a picture less if they draw one but I'd rather not have to draw one ever lol! Same goes for public hair. I just don't prefer it.

this is a noble and valid point in art <3

i think in this case you might consider who watches your work on a day to day basis...younger people or people who arent expecting that from you. for instance the vagina i just drew, i think my watchers arent thrown by that because of my other drawings, so i get a positive reaction to it actually.

also i know there are people who lurk around da and will complain about lower genitalia on men and women and spend their time asking for the pieces to be taken down. so maybe people dont want the criticism or to take any risks.

I think this is an important factor as to why genitalia (both male and female) aren't drawn as much as other parts of the anatomy. DA moderation does tend towards the capricious side and will err on the side of those complaining about certain types or aspects of art, including the depictions of genitalia. Personally, I don't shy away from depicting vaginas when the piece is a nude, but I can understand why other artists would when it could mean that the piece gets removed from their galleries due to DA moderation.

yeah, some moderation is swell, especially where children are involved. this is something that cant really be discussed by anyone but the individual artist of each piece in question. they will each have their own personal reasons. maybe something as simple as they dislike genitalia lol, maybe something as complex as a sexual identity.
